What are the modules of automatic driving


The automatic driving technology can be divided into several levels according to the intelligent degree of the system. At present, the industry mainly adopts the definitions of classification standards from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the American Highway Safety Administration, which are mainly divided into L0, L1, L2, L3, L4 and L5, that is, from no automation to full automation. At this stage, manufacturers and research organizations mainly focus on the research of L2-L4. Of course, they will also hear about the concepts of L2.5 and L2+, which are between L2 and L3.

The high-level auto drive system mainly includes four modules: mapping and positioning, perception, planning and control. In addition, various sensors will be installed in the unmanned driving system. A vehicle with high-level automatic driving function will be equipped with various sensors, including camera, laser radar, millimeter wave radar, inertial navigation, etc.

The mapping and positioning module mainly solves the problem of "where am I" through different sensor information. The sensing module mainly solves the problem of "what is the surrounding environment" through sensor information. The planning and control module mainly solves the problem of "how do I go to a certain destination".

In addition to the core technologies of sensor, positioning, perception, planning and control, there are also simulation technologies, which are easily neglected in the automatic driving technology. A very important application of simulation technology is that it can virtualize many lifelike scenes, provide massive data for the training of deep learning models, and carry out sufficient data production for some unusual extreme scenarios, and provide sufficient support for deep learning models from the number and diversity of training samples.
